Future’s Future
By: Daoud Al-Shiryan
Source: Al-Hayat, 24/8/08
Some consider that the current discussion regarding the security agreement signed between Hezbollah and a Salafist group in Tripoli is avoiding certain grounds that led to the announcement of such a step. Furthermore, it is believed by these sectors that the speculation has limited its scope to Hezbollah’s role in attempting to generate alliances with the Sunni organizations and societies in the hope of transforming Tripoli’s electoral landscape and thereby undermining the majority’s standing in the coming elections. This was surprising to many, who assumed this startling development would evolve in to an appraisal of the Future Movement’s role and its relationship with Islamic Sunni organizations and the Sunni milieu in general, to say nothing of the “Future” deputies who had prior knowledge of the document (and possibly blessed it), then later denounced it and denied any involvement in the matter – all of which points to a curious state of affairs within the Future Movement.

The Sovereignty Conspiracy
By: Lokman Slim
Source: Annahar, 2/9/07
One Saturday morning in the middle of last June, I was abruptly awoken by the noise of a compressor under my balcony, which faces al-Ghobeiri street. What really surprised me was that the workers in this site did not offer any identification informing the public about who they were working for: neither from the local nor Haret Hreik municipality usually responsible for public works. That evening, these unknown workers left and began digging a ditch in a new location, about three or four meters wide and deep. They extended a long, heavy, black wire connecting both ditches, abandoning the site at sunset without properly asphalting it to blend in with the road. God knows where these wires really start and end.
